[CLOSED] HOLD file formats - which one???
I've noticed with 8203 that InfoAssist will let us save HOLD files in an array of different types: Binary (*.ftm), FOCUS (*.foc), csv, Plain Text (*.ftm), Tab delimited, Database Table (*.sql), SQL Script (*.sql), XML and JSON. How do I know which to choose? And is there a material difference between different types that show the same file extension?
Thanks!

These formats have always been available even if not shown in the GUI.

You can get a generalised idea of what format to use when by searching the documentation - link - and specifically - link

I sincerely doubt that the format "Database Table" has a file extension; that writes to a database table, doesn't it?

Or is that a difference between ON TABLE SAVE and ON TABLE HOLD?

Tony, thanks for the links. I managed to miss those looking on my own. However, the " Choosing Output File Formats" doesn't list all of the options found in IA. It does list many others apparently available when coding by hand.

Wep5622 -- if you read the "Choosing Output File Formats" you will find the table formats include this information: "Creates a table if you have the Adapter and permission to create tables."

That depends on what it is that you want to do with the held file.

Doug,
You aren't wrong. The "Choosing Output File Formats" helps, but I think running tests with different formats to see which gives the best performance will be part of our process.
