Instead of creating a master file to a named range in Excel I had setup a linked table in Access to the excel file. I setup a ODBC connection to the access file and connected to it and can see the view/query of the linked table(external excel file). However, WebFocus cannot create the synonym because it cannot connect to the data source. I figured this might happen.
