So I am defining a new synonym to use with infoassist. I want the usage of the date fields to be more user friendly than the default format in WEBFOCUS.

The settings I have set for the date time field is

FIELDNAME=CLOSEDDATE, ALIAS=ClosedDate, USAGE=HMDYYSA, ACTUAL=HYYMDm,
MISSING=ON, $

When I go to create a test report i get the following error.

(FOC1647) UNCOMPARABLE ACTUAL/USAGE FORMATS FOR DATETIME FIELD : CLOSEDDATE%
This is the same format I have for all date fields. I have used the same usage and actual format on other synonyms with no issues. Any thoughts?

You should never modify your ACTUAL. As long as you change the USAGE to a compatible format you should be fine. What's the data source?

I did not modify the actual (well i did try changing AFTER I received to error message to see if it had any effect. I gave me a different error message so I reverted back to original and now I'm back to getting the error message).

Data source is a view from our database.

The view is in what kind of dbms? SQL Server, Oracle, DB2? If you create the synonym and don't change anything, does the synonym work?

What's the USAGE= and ACTUAL= generated by Create Synonym?

Sybase IQ is the DB.

Usage and Actual are Both HYYMDm by default when I create the synonym. If I leave it that way it works its when I change the usage format I start getting the error message.

This just a guess but

USAGE=HYYMDmA, ACTUAL=HYYMDm

might work.

If I keep the miliseconds property I change the format however I want. The problem seems to rounding off of miliseconds to some other time.

Very perplexing why on other synonyms this isn't a problem.

Hi SAI_Ryan,

Here are a few Techsupport links that deal with date time and seconds.

There might be something that is helpful in here.HYYMDS date show milliseconds in HOLD ALPHA and SAVE files

Any issues changing from SMALLDATETIME to DATETIME
