Hello, I am new to Web Focus App Studio. I'm using App Studio 8204 and have created a precision report. I have a few date fields in a data matrix region. However, I can't seem to format the date at all and I'm not sure how. It looks like the format is using HYYMDS and I want to just use a short date format like 4/19/2019. I placed the fields from my SQLOUT (fields tab) into the matrix.

Help Appreciated!

Thank you

If you have access to the metadata you can open it with the editor and remove the S portion (time) from the date/time fields. This will remove it for everyone who uses this field. If you're not allowed to modify the metadata or don't want to make this change for everyone, you can create a DEFINE'd field with HYYMD format and set your date field equal to it and then use the new field in your report instead.

Welcome to Focal Point, it is a great forum for getting answers to your development questions!

By default when the metedata is created for date fields it sets them to a date timestamp HYYMDs you can create a setting in the server profile (edasprof.prf) SET DATETIME=OFF and that will change the creation of the metadata to be YYMD no timestamp. You will have to re-create the metadata after this setting is in place to update the existing ones or manually change them as BabakNYC indicated.

Thank you for using Focal Point!

Thanks, Chuck and BabakNYC.

This is great. The global options on the server and field level is good to know. I opted for the new field option and it worked great. I right-clicked the field on the fields tab, and then selected "New Compute Virtual Field". This launched the Computed Field Creator. I just double clicked the field I wanted, created a name for it, and then changed the format. I then replaced the original field on the matrix with the new computed field.

I will also explore the syntax this created when I click on the source tab so that I can learn more about the language.

Thank you!
