I am new to the Web Services part of Web Focus.

I have seen the many topics on Web Services, but it seems most are about creating web services.

My question is, is there an example of code or documentation that can share how Web Focus communicates with a separate Web Service and how it interprets a response.

I can only assume this is done in a fex file, or configured somewhere on the server.

Can anyone enlighten me? I have read the documentation on creating a web service, but I'm not sure I want to do that... unless creating one would be good to talk to other web services.

Can a fex pass and interpret web service calls and responses?

I know we have the ON TABLE HOLD AS name FORMAT XML, but how does this relate?

Consuming Web Services requires a license for the Web Services adapter and is configured on the WebFOCUS Reporting Server. When you configure a Web Service it creates a Master File and Access File. Then you can access the Web Services as just another data source.

I'm not sure I fully understand Web Services, but I do understand master and access files, but if I am not creating my own Web Service, can I configure an external Web Service to create a master and access file to use?

Did that question make any sense?

At a basic level, there are 2 type of Web Services; 1) Publishing allows you to take an exist WebFOCUS & Reports Caster procedure and turn it into a web service so that other application front-end like DOT NET can then call them. 2) Consuming allows you to take an exist web service and call it as another data source.

Hope this helps

What IBI software is required to perform number 1. Publishing an already written WebFOCUS report so that it can be called as a Web Service from a .net application?

I believe they are called
1) WebFOCUS Web Services Enablement Option (Publish).
2) WebFOCUS Web Service Adapter (Consume).

Thank you Stigray, I am reading the documentation on both of those to see which one I am thinking I will need.
