COBOL Subroutine that accesses DB2

We are currently calling a COBOL Subroutine from a DEFINE in FOCUS/MF in MVS Batch to retrieve a value from a sequential file. This Subroutine is used from FOCUS as well as from COBOL.

This COBOL Subroutine is going to be changed to retrieve the value from a DB2 Table. A stored procedure will be called from within the new COBOL Subroutine to access the data.

Since we do not use FOCUS to access DB2 - the FOCUS/DB2 Interface is not installed - we would like to continue to use the changed Subroutine from FOCUS and to access DB2 via the COBOL Subroutine.

Do I need to install the FOCUS/DB2 Interface in order to run the Subroutine or can I get away without the installation, since COBOL is actually accessing the data?

Any ideas on the subject would be appreciated.
