Hi,

I try to use more function on 4 CSV files with, together, millions of rows. When using report caster the fex succeeds, but the foc file is 1,99 gb big. I think this is the max capacity, because i expect more gb's. Does anyone knows what the limit of a foc file is and if i can change that?

afaik 2 GB is the limit for foc files. Switch to Xfocus or relational db. For both you need an extra license.

You can always create multiple FOCUS files, and when using them, used the USE statement to concatenate them together.

You can also use the LOCAIION attribute, in the Synonym Editor it's called CRSEGNAME. You can have a maximum of 64 separate Focus files in 1 logical table. That allows for different structures which the USE command can't handle.

Something like this:

FILENAME=newmas, SUFFIX=FOC , $
SEGMENT=SEG1, SEGTYPE=S0, $
FIELDNAME=FIELD1, USAGE=A20, $
SEGMENT=SEG2, SEGTYPE=S0, PARENT=SEG1, LOCATION=newmas2, $
FIELDNAME=FIELD, USAGE=A20, $

The Physical limit for a FOCUS db is 2Gb, Waz and Håken are correct with the ability to expand, but look at the Describing Data manual for Intelligent Partioning, which brings an easier approach to USE and LOCATION attributes when reporting; you still need USE for MODIFY.

At the sizes you're looking at, 2Gb to 16Gb should be easily achievable in FOCUS rather than XFOCUS.

XFOCUS has many other advantages, but unless you need them, maybe not worth the upgrade.
