What's the final word on "Application Studio" and "Developer Studio 8"?

Inquiring minds want to know: Is "Application Studio" replacing "Developer Studio"? Or are they two separate / distinct items in WebFOCUS 8?

References to documentation is greatly appreciated. Smiler

We had an on site IBI trainer here a month ago.
Right now in 8 it is still Developer Studio, but in later releases of 8 it will change to Application Studio...apparently it was not quite ready for prime-time. Not sure when the change happens.

Thanks Prarie, How was that on site training? Maybe we can do the same here for our next Nashville Users Group meeting.

We are on 8005 - and it's still Dev Studio.

We were told App Studio would replace Dev Studio.

I don't have an official date - but I was told they were shooting for early/mid 2014.

App Studio is targeted to go GA with the WebFOCUS 8.1.00 release. Although it may not be feature complete. App Studio and Developer Studio will coexist for some time. Once App Studio is feature complete, we plan to stabilize Developer Studio and support it for two years. Then only App Studio will be supported.

@David Glick

We plan to migrate from WF/WFDS 7.7.02 to WF/WFDS 8.0.05 in the very near future.

When WFAS 8.1.n is available for the desktop, will we be required to update the 8.0.05 server to 8.1.n as well?

Yes it was on site training. Our Retail division just bought WebFocus and they had some newbies. I sat in for some sessions, because it was GUI based...and I can always learn something new from that...since I just use the code for the most part. Smiler

David B.

Right now App Studio requires the 8006 WebFOCUS Client. The Reporting Server is 7706/8100.
