Hi All,

I have two hold files and i am trying to append them using MORE command.If the number of BY fields are not same in those two HOLD files,i used to get an error message saying
 format mismatch for the filed
.
As i have learned from the forum that it is a misleading error message and we have to look within the HOLD files for number of fields or BY fields.

TABLE FILE HD2
SUM
	COMPUTE SOMECOUNT/I8= OFFCOUNT;
BY LOWEST CLASS_DESC
BY START_DATETIME_YEAR
BY TOTAL COMPUTE ROWLABEL/A20V = 'Year ' | EDIT(START_DATETIME_YEAR);
BY START_DATETIME_MONTH
BY Defmonth
WHERE START_DATETIME_YEAR IN (2017,2018);
WHERE CLASS_DESC EQ 'Class1';
ON TABLE HOLD AS HLD_DATA1
END

TABLE FILE HD2
SUM
	COMPUTE SOMECOUNT/I8= OFFCOUNT;
BY LOWEST CLASS_DESC
BY START_DATETIME_YEAR
BY TOTAL COMPUTE ROWLABEL/A20V = 'Year ' | EDIT(START_DATETIME_YEAR);
BY TOTAL COMPUTE START_DATETIME_MONTH/D2    = 99;
BY TOTAL COMPUTE Defmonth/A5V   = 'Total';
WHERE START_DATETIME_YEAR IN (2017,2018);
WHERE CLASS_DESC EQ 'Class1';
ON TABLE HOLD AS HLD_DATA2
END

TABLE FILE HLD_DATA1
SUM
     SOMECOUNT
BY  CLASS_DESC
BY  START_DATETIME_YEAR NOPRINT
BY  ROWLABEL
ACROSS START_DATETIME_MONTH NOPRINT
ACROSS Defmonth
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
     INCLUDE = IBFS:/EDA/EDASERVE/_EDAHOME/ETC/enblue_medium2.sty,
$
ENDSTYLE
MORE
FILE HLD_DATA2
END

I am getting format mismatch for the above code.Can anyone spot any error.I have been trying different things from morning and i couldn't find anything wrong in them.

Before the last TABLE FILE, issue the following commands

?FF HLD_DATA1
?FF HLD_DATA2

This will show you the formats of all the fields.
They all must be the same

There was a format mismatch for BY fields in the second HOLD file.
Thanks for the suggestions.
