Hello, I have a report which uses the alternate view. Syntax TABLE FILE TableName.FieldName.

This report works in 7.6.8. However in 7.7.03, I receive the following error: (FOC1402) KEYFLD AND IXFLD KEYWORDS MISSING FOR SEGMENT. The KEYFLD and IXFLD are both set in the acx for the parent segment and the segment used in the alternate view. This is the only report causing the error. I have several other reports which report from the same segments without the alternate view and run correctly in 7.7.03.

There are over 81000 records in the parent segment and only 1200 in the child segment, so I understand why the report was written using the alternate view.

The datasource is SQL. Is this the problem?

Sometimes, the explanation given by querying the error code can be helpful:

? 1402

produces this:

(FOC1402) KEYFLD AND IXFLD KEYWORDS MISSING FOR SEGMENT %1%2%3%4
 A segment reference in a multi-table Access File Description is missing
 the required KEYFLD and IXFLD attributes, which should exist in all seg-
 ments except the top segment. Check the Master File Description, and make
 the appropriate corrections to the Access File Description.

If the above doesn't provide any clues to the problem, I recommend opening a case with IBI because it seems to be a new release compatibilty issue.

Thank you for replying. I did query the error code and double checked that the KEYFLD and IXFLD attributes were set for all segments in the Access File Description. I will open a case.

I think alternate view syntax is valid only for FOCUS data sources, that is, .foc files.

I would like to see what kind of SQL is generated with alternate view syntax on an SQL data source.


In FOCUS since 1985. Prod WF 8.0.08 (z90/Suse Linux) DB (Oracle 11g), Self Serv, Report Caster, WebServer Intel/Linux.

Hello, Thank you for the responses. I was notified by my customer this report is no longer being used. I did not figure out the solution.
