The WebFocus Report Server acts as an interface between the Web Server (aka Application Server) and the data. It receives the request, retrieves the data, formats it, and returns the formatted data to the Web Server. The Web Server delivers the report to the browser or Developer Studio. I should note that the WebFocus Client resides on the Web Server. The I-Way Server is a part of the WebFocus Report Server that provides the interface or data connection to the data. In the mainframe days we called it a data interface. Back then there are specialized interfaces for many of the different database/file structures - ISAM, VSAM, IMS, IDMS, ADABAS, DB2, ORACLE, etc. Simply stated - The I-Way product is a packaging and branding of the database/file interfaces. The history of all this goes back to the early days of Focus, before WebFocus, back to 1977 or so. Hmm, I guess that is beyond where you wanted to go with your question…
