I have a graph like this...

where:
ASORT = defined field to keep AGEGRP in a specific sort order.
XAGE = defined field which contains consolidated data for AGEGRP field.

When I tried to run this graph, I received the error:

0 NUMBER OF RECORDS IN GRAPH= 55 PLOT POINTS= 5
(FOC32466) MERGE DIMENSIONS EXCEED THE NUMBER OF SORT FIELDS

So, I investigated this error and got this message:

? 32466
-RUN

(FOC32466) MERGE DIMENSIONS EXCEED THE NUMBER OF SORT FIELDS.
The sum of GRMULTIGRAPH, GRXAXIS, and GRLEGEND set command values must be equal to the number of BY fields in the focexec.

I have been playing with the GRMULTIGRAPH, GRLEGEND and GRXAXIS settings, and I'm still getting this error.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Now I have the modify the

to control the legend displays.
I'd like to get around that!

Well, you have 3 BY-fields (ASORT, XAGE & YEAR) while GRMULTIGRAPH, GRLEGEND and GRXAXIS only add up to 2. My guess is that GRLEGEND should be 2.

I don't recall ever having success mixing BY and ACROSS fields in one graph, I usually stick with just BY fields, so:
GRAPH FILE MORE1
SUM AVEMONS_06 AS ' '
BY ASORT NOPRINT
BY XAGE
BY YEAR AS ' '
. . .
ON GRAPH SET LOOKGRAPH HBAR

ON GRAPH SET GRMULTIGRAPH 0
ON GRAPH SET GRLEGEND 2
ON GRAPH SET GRXAXIS 1
. . .
END
