I have a report that has two text fields. I want the capability so that the user is prompted to enter one value. The report will return results if either of the two fields has that prompted value. Does anyone know how to do that?

I hope that you just start using WebFOCUS because this is a very basic question.

Look documents in Creating Content or Reference section : Documentation
Don't know which version you are working with but even the latest version documentation will answer you questions.

You should update your profile to provide which version of WebFOCUS you are using


WF versions : Prod 8.2.04M gen 33, Dev 8.2.04M gen 33, OS : Windows, DB : MSSQL, Outputs : HTML, Excel, PDF

Yes, it probably is basic for you, but clearly I don't know how, so I posted it here hoping someone could provide some thoughts.

I am assuming you didn't look at my profile, else you would have seen that I am new and indicated that my WebFOCUS version is 8.2.04.

Here is an example. You could run the following code:
TABLE FILE ibisamp/car
PRINT MODEL BODYTYPE LENGTH
WHERE MODEL CONTAINS '&SEARCH'
OR BODYTYPE CONTAINS '&SEARCH'
END

And then, when prompted enter:

ER

and click the run button. You would see output for search of both fields.

Thank you dbeagan!

I was thinking it was that simple also, but had problems getting that to work. My parameter '%SEARCH' didn't retain the values to pass over for some reason.

I ended up combining the values of the two fields into one field using "Define". I was then able to put that "Define" field into a "Simple Parameter".

%SEARCH is not a valid parameter. You need to use a leading ampersand ( & ) on parameter names.
