I would like to create aligned text in the header of an HTML output report for an invoice. Something like:

Name: xxxxxx Order Num: xxxxxx
Address: xxxxxx Date: xxxxxx
City: xxxxxx

Then the body contains sales item detail - like quantity, item code, description etc. The header data labels and data should be aligned in columns. Now I have read the forum posts suggesting various techniques like - set columns = xx, AlignBody etc. But this does not give me the results I am looking for. Isn't there a way to write the data out to an HTML table and then merge that with the rest of the row data in the body of the report? Sure I could probably do this in PDF output but I need it in HTML and I honestly cannot believe that a decent looking, aligned header cannot be created.

I have tried many different options and am completely stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Norb

WebFOCUS 7 has an alignment grid that you could turn on to align this with.

A style mode of fixed will keep things lined up, but I'm not sure if that is what you are wanting.

SET STYLEMODE = FIXED
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
CAR
MODEL
BODYTYPE
SALES
END

Easy-peasy with HEADALIGN=INTERNAL.

quote:
HEADALIGN=INTERNAL creates a separate HTML table. Columns are generated based on the number of items (text and fields) in the heading; each item is placed in a separate cell. These columns do not correspond to those in the HTML table for the body of the report.

My example:

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
SALES AS 'Sales'
WHEELBASE AS 'Wheelbase'
BY COUNTRY NOPRINT
BY CAR NOPRINT
BY MODEL NOPRINT
BY BODYTYPE NOPRINT
ON BODYTYPE PAGE-BREAK
HEADING
"Country: <COUNTRY Car: <CAR"
"Model: <MODEL Body Type: <BODYTYPE"
" "

ON TABLE SET PAGE NOLEAD
ON TABLE SET STYLESHEET *
TYPE=REPORT, GRID=OFF, FONT='ARIAL', SIZE=8, $
TYPE=HEADING, HEADALIGN=INTERNAL, $
TYPE=HEADING, OBJECT=TEXT, STYLE=BOLD, $
TYPE=HEADING, OBJECT=FIELD, COLOR=NAVY, $
END

Thanks everyone that responded.

Although I tried the various suggestions - none of them give me what I am looking for. The HEADALIGN=INTERNAL does seperate the data but the column widths match the with of the data table cells and so header data is wrapped - which is not what I want. I did futz around and use the POSITION=xx property in the stylesheet but this did not position the text absolutely, regardless of the documentation, so it trial and error for alignment.

At least I have something that looks decent now. But it sure seems to me that there should be a better way.

Thanks

One last question for you. Is there any reason why you didn't create the output in a PDF format?

Primarily because this output is from a drill-down and they will be interacting with the "total" report on the screen.
