Hi,

WebFOCUS/ReportCaster sends Excel spreadsheets as type 'webpage' instead of type 'normal' when I choose the format EXL2K or EXL97. Is there a way to have it sent as type 'normal'.
(XLnormal). Types of 'XLwebpage' do not allow for importing to Access Database. They must be opened and "saved as" type 'XLnormal' before they can be imported to Access database.

I have to schedule a job which will ftp the excel output file to a remote location. From there, an automated program runs and will import into Access database. So I can not do the manual step here to do 'Save as' of normal excel file tyle.

Does anybody have any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance

Can your Access database accept a tab- or comma-delimited file? If so, HOLD format of TABT or HOLD FORMAT COMMT might work. Other formats to try are:

COMMA, COM, COMT, FOCUS, DB2, FUSION, INGRES, REDBRICK, SQL, SQLDBC, SQLORA, SQLINF, SQLMSS, SQLSYB, SQLODBC, TABT

No, they only want a file which has extension '.xls'. I am just trying to see if it is possible or I have to ask my client to see if they can accept csv file. But, before that I am just wondering if we have any excel format which saves as the normal type. I tried the format 'EXCEL' and it saves as excel 2.0, which is not accepted in Access database.

You might be able to hold the file as COMMT or TABT and rename it to have the .xls extension.

We do this all the time with tab-delimited data. Double-clicking on the filename.xls icon opens the file just as though its internal format were Excel.

Don't know whether Access is as smart as Excel in this respect.

If caster and the reporting server are on the same box, you might also be able to have 2 seperate jobs when 1 runs after the other. the first one runs and creates an access database. The 2nd run and send the a file (the access database).
