Getting BYDISPLAY to work with EXL2K FORMULA for multi-verb request

This is for WebFOCUS 7.1.3.

When using BYDISPLAY=ON with a multi-verb request for EXL2K FORMULA it only repeats the BY field values for some of the BY fields, but not all. Is there a way to get BYDISPLAY to work for all the BY fields?

Thanks,

John

John,
I ran:

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES BY COUNTRY
SUM SALES BY COUNTRY BY CAR
PRINT SALES RCOST DCOST COMPUTE PROFIT/D6=RCOST - DCOST;
BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY BODYTYPE
ON COUNTRY SUBTOTAL
ON TABLE SET BYDISPLAY ON
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K FORMULA
END

and didn't have any problems. Is your example much more complex?

Thanks, Daniel.

I tried running it again today, and now it's working properly. The mysteries of WebFOCUS...

The next thing I'm try to get to work with this is to get a field to display a sequential number. This way when they've done sorting and want to reset the report back to its orignal sort order, all they have to do is sort by this field.

Doing a computer such as ROW_COUNTER/I11 = ROW_COUNTER + 1; doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

John,

Try this:

DEFINE FILE CAR
DUM/A1= ' ';
END

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES
BY DUM NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY
SUM SALES
BY DUM NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY BY CAR
LIST SALES RCOST DCOST COMPUTE PROFIT/D6=RCOST - DCOST;
BY DUM NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY BODYTYPE
ON COUNTRY SUBTOTAL
ON TABLE SET BYDISPLAY ON
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K FORMULA
END

Beware however of the sorting if you have SUBTOTALS...

Thanks, Daniel. I should have thought of that! I completely forgot about list.

They do have subtotals, so we'll have to see what they want to do...

John

Your compute was nearly there,

ROW_COUNTER/I11 = LAST ROW_COUNTER + 1;

Hi Alan,

I had tried that version of ROW_COUNTER, but it didn't work -- the numbers were mostly 1's with occasional other number.

Thanks,

John

I was using:
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES
SUM SALES BY COUNTRY
SUM SALES BY COUNTRY BY CAR
PRINT SALES
COMPUTE ROW/I4=LAST ROW+1;
BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY MODEL
END

which I know does work.

That's what I expected to have happen. I've used counter fields before. For some reason, this report is a little trickier.

Thanks for your help,

John

Alan,

The problem is that John wants the output in EXL2K FORMULA. This causes a circular definition in EXCEL because the LAST function is apparently not well implemented in EXL2K output.

Using LIST with a dummy field gives the numbering. As I said if John wants to be able to re-sort using the numbered lines when SUBTOTALs are used, those lines are not numbered...

Ah.
I was using openOffice (too lazy to move machine), where it does work!
Looking at the xml, it shouldn't. That's a pretty awful implemenation.
