Hello

Is it mandatory to sort hold files before JOIN by the JOIN fields?

If the 2 hold files are not sorted in order of JOIN fields, does WebFOCUS issue a worning message? Can the worning messages be disabled?

Thank you, Mila

Mila,

It is not necesarry to sort a file before joining them. Its mostly dependent on your backend database though. What are you using for your database? Here I have Oracle as my Database so join definitions are based on what Oracle defines.

by using the term 'hold file', i'm assuming you are talking about a pair of foctemp files (.ftm) that your procedure makes.
yes, you need to sort them by 1 field each.
and then join on that 1 field.
no, you cannot join on more than 1 field.
If you need to do that, you need to build a compound field in each of your foctemps , and use that compound field as the basis of your join.
ok?

With hold files you can join on multiple fields, but as susannah says they must be sorted by the fields you are joining with.
