I'm trying to figure out how to copy a portion of one focus database into another focus database using MAINTAIN. I would like to do something similar to this:

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT CAR RETAIL_COST
ON TABLE HOLD AS CARMAINT
END

and then use MAINTAIN to copy all of the data in CARMAINT into a new focus database titled NEWCAR.

Why not use ON TABLE HOLD FORMAT FOCUS?

If you have ETL from IBI that can do the job.

else you can write a fex with the modify command
something like this

first create a hold file from the CAR database

MODIFY FILE NEWCAR
FIXFORM FROM TEMP
MATCH COUNTRY MODEL etc (all key fields)
ON NOMATCH INCLUDE
ON MATCH REJECT

DATA ON TEMP
END

Thanks for the ideas. I was just wondering if there was some way to do this type of thing using maintain.
