Greetings,

Microsoft is in the process of "rolling out" IE 10, and we have started to encounter problems. Specifically, our chained launch pages are spinning on the IBI "Loading" circle, and never rendering.

I've done some searches and see -nothing- in Focalpoint about IE 10, other than a Reportcaster issue. On the IBI website, IE 10 is not mentioned in the 7.7 branch under supported browsers, and is "under evaluation" for most categories in the 8.0 branch.

The problem is, new computers in our organization are being delivered with IE 10, and Microsoft (again) is pushing this out in Windows update so that you have to be really careful to not let it go ahead and update. I fear that our organization will soon be overwhelmed with PCs that have IE 10 on them, and Launch Pages spin-and-spin.

I have one developer with a new DELL laptop that had IE 10 on it, and of course we can't point Dev Studio to open a different browser (argghhhhh), and backing off IE 10 to IE 9 left the browser in a broken state.

I just wanted to check if others are out there using IE 10 yet, and if not, sound the warning alarm far and wide that support headaches are a'coming. Bad ones.

Hi Dan,
Don't think IE10 is supported...
Look here.

Try clicking on the Compatibility Mode icon at the right of the address bar.

I think there's also a Compatibility Mode setting that you can turn on for intranet sites.

We just started having this problem also. Compatibility mode does render our pages correctly. It will stay active for the site until you delete cookies. My question - is there any way to set this permanently?

Even more fun, launch pages generated by HTML Composer caused IE10 to crash! Composer generated label-tags that contained an empty name attribute and BANG! Down went IE 10.

The funny thing is, Windows detects that the application crashed and offers an option to "search the net for a fix" and attempts to use the crashed IE 10 for that. Nothing happens.

HTML Composer does this in WF 77.03 HF 6 or 7 (not sure whether that specific launch page was created before or after our "sidedate").

We are going thru similar trouble with IE 10. All our developer and production machine runs Windows 7 and it automatically updated from IE 9 to IE 10.
here are couple basic thing that we do that help us a lot :-

Go IE setting > Developer Tools > Browser mode IE 9.

You can leave that developer tool minimize so that it will not change back to IE 10.
Thats should help you get thru development phase.

Another way is by downloading Firefox plugin called IE tab and change your default browser to FF.

That doesn't help at all, as IE-tab just wraps the IE window in a Firefox tab. It's still IE that's rendering the page.

Besides, Developer Studio will still launch IE (and not Firefox) for procedures run from Dev Studio, that's hard-coded into the tool.

Thanks for the suggestions, compatability mode helps quite a bit. It would help more if IE 10 was supported natively by the product Smiler

BTW, in Developer Studio 8002 (ver 8002_Prod0319), we have a new feature for rendering called "Developer Studio viewer". You can choose in Options to render in IE or the internal "Developer Studio viewer". I'm unsure what base engine it is using. Still would prefer that Dev Studio allowed me to chose the browser or point the Run against the multiple browsers that are installed in my development environment. I'd gladly give up the authentication cookie for browser control. But that's getting off-topic!

Is Developer Studio the last IDE that's married to Internet Explorer?

Dan, you say you have 8.0.0.2 - does that version come with the new Application Studio? At this time, is HTML Composer in Application Studio the same as HTML Composer in Developer Studio?

Hi Francis --

No, 8.0.02 is just the standard windows-based 1 Gb .EXE installed Developer Studio, with support for WF 8 functions like Security, BIP, etc. We're actually working through some "issues" with HTML Composer right now (DS 8.0.02 and 8.0.02m).

As far as I am aware, Application Studio hasn't been released yet. Based on the agenda extracts for Summit 2013, it looks like 8.0.03 will be released before summit (at least one abstract from IBI references 8.0.03). I don't know if Application Studio will be released at that time. I do believe that there will be a lot of rah-rah at Summit 2013 around App Studio.

It will be interesting to see how HTML Composer is integrated with App Studio.

I am also hopeful that we will finally get browser control from the developer side to launch our code from Dev/App Studio using a different browser than the evil hard-coded IE. We've seen some evidence of movement on this front, as Dev Studio 8.0.02 now includes an IBI internal browser as a launch configuration option choice.

Now if we can just get Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera capabilities Smiler I'd gladly give up the authentication cookie on a configuation-by-configuration basis in order for such flexibility to render in what customers use, directly from Dev/App Studio.....
