Tech doc only lists Hnn as Actual types

The default on synonym creation is

ACTUAL=HYYMDs and USAGE=HYYMDs

So there has to be more to the documentation than is listed.

Anyone know where?

You might want to look into ordering this.
Almost 1001 ways to work with dates. You can get it on the IBI site.

Why not check this out?

Sorry folks

That doesn't solve the prob because the problem I have is what ACTUAL formats are permitted.

The wf documentation lists only H + numeric for actuals but the list is clearly more as the adapter defaults to ACTUAL=HYYMDs but there is no docs on what ACTUALs are permitted with what USAGEs.

But thanks for your help though!

I have a 1001 dates so I will take that to bed with me tonight and see if I can find a solution in that.

Hope it is good as Arabian Nights...

John,

Would you care to tell what it is you are trying to resolve? Do you have a non-standard date-time column in an RDBMS table?

Cheers,

Francis

It was a great read - I won't spoil the end for anyone when I say the murder was actually committed at DT(2004/06/08 23:45:56.873898)

However I did find out why he had called it almost 1001 ways to do things with dates, because he had omitted the ACTUAL to USAGE translation rules.

So unfortunately we still have no docs...

In all the work I've done with date-time fields, you're a lot more restricted on formats (and changing USAGE) than you are with simple date fields. As for actual formats, there is only going to be a single format that works for a field according to the RDBMS, depending on the precision of the time and the format of the date. The Usage format is going to have to match the actual format. Any other formats would require some 'H' date functions (HDATE,HDIFF, etc.) If possible, use the console to generate an MFD for the data source to see what is automatically created, then it is what it is - don't change it or you'll likely have problems.

Regards,

Darin
