A field in my mfile is datatype packed6 with missing set to off. When I run a report for all records the missing data shows as 0. When I query for all the records where the field = to zero, zero rows are returned. I've tried supression the zero and querying for all records where the field eq ' ', and I still get zero rows. I've tried eq 0, eq '0', eq ' ', is missing, is null and get zero rows returned. How do I query this field? I'm running version 5.3.3

You don't mention anything about the type of DB you are using. Please update your profile so we can see your platform, version, databases, etc.

The issue may be that the there are actually null values in your database, but since your Master File says Missing=OFF, it interprets those null values as 0. But when you send a query, the 0 value is sent to the DB engine and it returns no records because the values are null. Try using db's native query tool and see what you get, or change the MISSING=OFF to MISSING=ON.

I'm using an Oracle database. And I do have nulls in the database. Thanks for your comment Darin. It turned on the light and help guide me to a solution.
