Hi,

i got a hold. in my source I already created an index.

Now I want to build on that hold (which has an index on filed a) another hold which also has a index on field a..

In infoassist I can't put the field a in the index box anymore.

My Code:

TABLE FILE WHATEVER
PRINT *
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD1 INDEX FIELDA
END

TABLE FILE HOLD1
PRINT *
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD2
END

->IS CREATABLE WITH INFOASSIST

What I want in red:
TABLE FILE WHATEVER
PRINT *
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD1 INDEX FIELDA
END

TABLE FILE HOLD1
PRINT
FIELDA
SOMETHINGELSE
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD2 INDEX FIELDA
END

-> IS NOT CREATABLE WITH INFOASSIST: WHEN I DRAG AND DROP THERE IS NO CHANGE

THANKS

You don't have a format in the hold statement. If you just say ON TABLE HOLD, the default hold file is a temporary binary file on disk. I think INDEX is supported if you have a FORMAT FOCUS or some kind of a DBMS.

Sorry, just forgot to write FORMAT FOCUS, it's just an example.

Also, an INDEX, FIELDA, should be the first sort field: 'BY FIELDA'

If you want to hold a file and have it indexed, you explicitly need to add the index.

If you hold a file A with an index and then hold file A to another file B, the B file will not inherit index from A file.
