In another company, I used the following command to capture a directory listing:

DIR c:\ibi\apps\ibisamp\car.foc > TEMP.TXT

and it worked fine.

I'm trying to use this command again at a different company, but the output does not redirect to TEMP.TXT. Instead it displays.

How can I get this to work?

Thank you,

John

Try using the DOS command:

DOS DIR C:\IBI\APPS\IBISAMP > C:\TEMP.TXT

Thanks, Francis. I made a typo in my message and left out the DOS. Adding the "C:\" solved the problem.

John

Without the C: the result goes into the DOS working (current) directory, which may not be C:\ and it may not be the directory you're enquiring about. You probably have a file named TEMP.TXT in some other directory...

If you need the directory content for reporting you should use

APP QUERY ibisamp HOLD
-RUN
TABLE FILE FOCAPPQ
PRINT *
END

This works with any operating system and you can use the listing for reports or wirite the list in any format supported by webfocus.

Patrick,

That's great if you want the entire directory listing of an Application folder (or a mapped one), but if you only want the dir listing of a single file (as seems to be the point here) or another network directory then good ol' DIR is the way to go.
