Tel me what type of files you use (SQL, Oracle, Focus or flat files).

As Frank says what kind. I've joined a flat file which has no index to a db2 table and it has worked. I've even joined to db2 table elements that weren't indexes and Focus handled it.

The only example I can think of is when one Focus file Joins to another Focus file. The linked-to file must have an indexed join field.

And that's why we want the originator of this question to tell us more about his problem.
But how about flat files, can we join them?

Flat files can be joined-to if the key is in the same sort order as the join-from key. Its more like a merge that keeps moving forwards.

MATCH FILE, I try to avoid like plague, but sometimes that's the only way to solve your problem, however, not helpful if you need a one to many relationship IMHO.
