I want underline a word in a heading. This works fine until I had a background color to the entire heading. Then the line disappears. It would seem that the background color moves infront of the underline. I even tried to draw a line and place it in the heading where I wanted it, but it also is behind the background color. Is there a way to force the line to the front of the color. My output format is PDF.

This occurred on 7.1.6 and 7.6.10 (current version)

It looks like you need to be very specific how you code the stylesheet.

I tried it in the gui, and saw what you where seeing.

Then I stepped back, and started coding explicitly, it works.

This seems to work in 7611. Does this work for you?

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES NOPRINT
HEADING
"SALES<+0 "
"" "
ON TABLE SET PAGE OFF
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
UNITS=IN,SQUEEZE=ON,ORIENTATION=PORTRAIT,$
TYPE=HEADING,LINE=1,
-*OBJECT=TEXT,ITEM=1,
BACKCOLOR='YELLOW',STYLE=UNDERLINE,$
TYPE=HEADING,LINE=2,BACKCOLOR=RGB(204 255 255),$
ENDSTYLE
END

WebFocus 7x, 8x, Win / Linux, any output format

Stange as it may seem: It works fine for me. I see the heading line 1 "SALES" under lined with a yellow background and the sum total "208420" with a teal background.

Please update your signature and let us know what your environment is and version of PDF, etc.

I used that same code and it didn't work for me. This is the same way I am doing it in my report headers. Even with background on line 2 and no back ground on line 1 the underline does not show up.

When I remove all traces of background from the header then underline will work.

The modified code below still would not work for me.

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
'CAR.BODY.SALES' NOPRINT
HEADING
"SALES"
"" "
ON TABLE SET PAGE OFF
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
UNITS=IN,
SQUEEZE=ON,
ORIENTATION=PORTRAIT,
$
TYPE=REPORT,
GRID=OFF,
FONT='TIMES NEW ROMAN',
SIZE=10,
$
TYPE=HEADING,
LINE=1,
OBJECT=TEXT,
ITEM=1,
STYLE=BOLD+UNDERLINE,
-* BACKCOLOR='YELLOW',
$
TYPE=HEADING,
LINE=2,
BACKCOLOR='TEAL',
$
ENDSTYLE
END

I am currently on version 7.6.10, Windows 7, and IE8 in production.

Two weeks ago I was on 7.1.6, Windows XP, and IE 7. The above code still would not show a drawn line or and underline in the heading.

A screen shot of my results can be seen at the below web address

Thank you all for your help.

I can get the underline to show up on the last line of the heading prior to background color. Attaching another link to show my progress.

Thanks again

Can you save the PDF, and post it like the screen shots ?

I'd like to compare yours to mine.

Interesting. When I saved it to my desktop and then opened the pdf file it worked. The underline was there. It appears to disappear only when viewing the pdf in browser.
