I am getting the error: (FOC016) THE TRUNCATED FIELDNAME IS NOT UNIQUE when I add just one additional field to my table file list of fields.

Can someone interpret this error for me?

Thanks.

Hi there,

This error means that the fieldname you've added is not the full name of the field, and there are two (or more) fields which could be the one you want.

e.g. if I have two fields called FIELD1 and FIELD2, and I write a request:

TABLE FILE filename
PRINT
FIELD
END

I'd get the error message you've seen, as I could be referring to FIELD1 or FIELD2 hence the truncated fieldname (FIELD) is not unique.

Regards

Tewy

Thanks for the help.

So what if I have 2 fields:

FIELDA
FIELDAZ

How do add both of them to my table file req?

Thanks.

A perfect match takes precedence, so "FIELDA" would give you FIELDA.

SET FIELDNAME = NOTRUNC

will stop FOCUS from looking for unique truncations.

I assume that FIELDA FIELDAZ are not the real field names. If they are then I would rename them to something other than FIELD... as FIELD may be a reserved word. Just a thought.
