Hi,
I'm trying to provide the users an option to Sort on the generated report using AHTML format.

When the report generates for the first time then the report looks good. The format of the report looks good when you sort the column which is mentioned in BY.
But when I try to sort on other columns then whole report gets altered. Can anyone suggest the way to resolve the issue.
Even if I sort any column the grouping should remain.

Example:
-------
Column Names:
-------------
1. Dept ( Grouped)
2. First_Name
3. Last_Name
4. Job_desc
5. Sal

When u apply sorting for DEPT column the format doesn't get altered.
But when you try to sort wrt First_Name then all the data starts appearing multiple times, even in Dept column & format gets altered.

Please help me in resolving the above mentioned issue.

Thanks in advance.

Prash,
When changing the primary sort field in AHTML format, you won't know what the Dept is unless it is repeated for each item of the new primary sort (Last Name).

Do you want to keep Dept as the primary sort and then sort Last_Name as the secondary sort?

IHTH.

Hi Greg,
You are right. No matter on what columns I do sorting, it has to get sorted with respect to the column which is mentioned in BY ie grouped.

Say DEPT is the primary sort & If I sort by FIRST_NAME ya JOB_DESC then the sorting has to take place with respect to the DEPT & layout of the report should remain as it was appearing for the first time.

Thanks & Regards,
Prashanth.

Then you will have to always say BY DEPT first followed by BY FIRST_NAME, etc. Then your report will be sorted by first name within each department.

Is that what you want?

Prash:
If you want the functionality of AHTML output but keep the same layout then you need to create HTML output with your own dropdown list for each column heading that you want the user to do something.

This has the advantage of allowing you to customize the functionality for your audience. It's not difficult it just takes time to write and debug which AHTML has already done.

Once again, you can do most or all of this customization using Dev Studio, if you want.
