My work environment is missing the "Project" tree selection under our server. We have only "Data Servers", "Domains", and "Web Applications". The environment has been around for a while and my compatriots, though not a noob like me, are not very skilled. I'm wondering if the original environment might be too old to feature it, was it misconfigured in the first place, or is this normal?

Select the 'Options' button by clicking on the AS icon in the top left corner in App Studio click on Environments and choose the Show Projects area check box. The only reason you need Projects is to use Maintain. If you not creating Maintain applications you do not need Projects.

That checkbox has the habit of getting unchecked on connection problems (for example if your password changed). A bit inconvenient.

We use Projects almost exclusively, while we don't use Maintain at all (no license). Stating the opposite is plain nonsense.

Projects are convenient for us to deploy our reports to production - although that is getting more and more broken and left out. We usually have dozens of deploy "files" per project, each deploying a specific report and it's related items - we use Projects per app directory, to group reports on related topics together.

One of the problems we're running into is that Project handling in App Studio is rather limited and unreliable. The biggest issue though is that it lacks the feature to deploy. We're still hoping that gets implemented (again) one day...

Wep5622, how dare you have reports in application folders? That goes against everything IB expects of you! You are obligated to live within the security perimeter of The Repository.

Wow! Now I have so many questions. WebFocus documentation explains in great detail how to do things but -never- once ever explains what anything is, rendering it practically useless and arcane. What is an "application folder" and why can't I put reports there?

So you're saying that the "projects" folder used to be for projects, but isn't any more?

One purpose for the application folders is that they contain WebFOCUS metadata (.mas and .acx files).

I was at an Information Builders User Forum where more than one presenter mentioned that we should not be using application folders to store report programs.
