my mre(5.2.7) end users, analytical class, can create and save a myreport, using JUST the reporting objects i've prepared for them.
What they want to do is edit the resultant program ever so slightly (eg:to filedef the output).
I had thought they could move a saved 'my report' into the custom reports area , with a copy paste, so they could crack it open. but alas, no.
it seems CustomReports gives them wide open access to every file on the server...its hugely more powerful then they need, or could understand.
What i want is a 'custom reports' area that is just slightly more powerful...allowing users ONLY the reporting objects already built, with the slight improvement of being able to crack open the code they generate. A copy and paste from 'my reports' into 'custom'. or..the ability to save from ReportingObjects directly into the custom area.
Sounds reasonable, doesn't it. Anybody have the same situation, and have figured out a way? short of admin intervention?

I do not think that you can do it although, in theory, all that is required is for the option of "edit" to be added to the context menu within MRE/BID.

The problem would come from the fact that the component parts of the reporting object are "-INCLUDE"d into the MRE fex at run time and therefore how could you expect the end user to understand where to put their required code without causing untold problems (they will you know!). Ok if you only want a filedef if you've included an "ON TABLE (PC)HOLD" but otherwise each case needs to be dealt with differently.

Nice NFR possibility but how would they implement it?
