I have the following report to be displayed in a frame of compound PDF report.
1) I am having trouble getting rid the top margin space believed to be space for the title.
2) Don't know why the first cell has no data.

SET TITLE = OFF
DEFINE FILE EMPLOYEE
EMP_CNT/I2=IF EMP_ID EQ LAST EMP_ID THEN 0 ELSE EMP_CNT + 1;
ROW_CNT/I2 = EMP_CNT/4;
COL_CNT/I2=IMOD(EMP_CNT,4,'I2');
END

TABLE FILE EMPLOYEE
SUM
     LAST_NAME AS '' OVER
     ADDRESS_LN1 AS '' OVER
     ADDRESS_LN2 AS ''
BY ROW_CNT NOPRINT
ACROSS COL_CNT NOPRINT
ON ROW_CNT SKIP-LINE
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
     UNITS=IN,
     PAGESIZE='Letter',
     LEFTMARGIN=0.000000,
     TOPMARGIN=0.000000,
     SQUEEZE=ON,
     ORIENTATION=PORTRAIT,
$
TYPE=REPORT,
     GRID=OFF,
     FONT='ARIAL',
     SIZE=4,
$
TYPE=DATA,
     ACROSSCOLUMN=N1,
     STYLE=BOLD,
$
TYPE=TITLE,STYLE=-UNDERLINE,$
ENDSTYLE
END

Thanks.

Hua

Ok, I'm not alone... I'm having a similiar problem with PDF. There is way more white space on my reports (portrait or landscape) and the top and bottom margin settings appears to be ignored. I'll be interested to see what thoughts folks have on this one.

Hua,
There are probably cleaner ways to do this but here are the changes I made to your code (notice the negative sign) to eliminate the top margin:

TABLE FILE EMPLOYEE
.
.
ON TABLE SET NEWLAYOUT ON
.
.
TYPE=DATAMATRIX,
POSITION =(0.000000 -0.170000),
DIMENSION=(10.000000 10.000000),
$
ENDSTYLE
END

IHTH,
Greg

Of course there is no mention of "NEWLAYOUT" and "DATAMATRIX" in the Developer Studio Help documentation, nor in the 39 PDF documents I have accumulated that pertain to WF 7.6.1 - 7.6.5.

One document pops up when searching Tech Support for "DATAMATRIX" while three do for "NEWLAYOUT".

I don't have any solutions for yout first problem, however as far as the blank column, if you change your defines to this
/*
DEFINE FILE EMPLOYEE
EMP_CNT/I2=IF EMP_ID EQ LAST EMP_ID THEN 0 ELSE IF LAST EMP_ID EQ '' THEN 0 ELSE EMP_CNT + 1;
ROW_CNT/I2 = EMP_CNT/4;
COL_CNT/I2=IMOD(EMP_CNT,4,'I2');
/*
it will eliminate your problem.

Regarding blank first cell:
I think the first cell is blank because the first record you reading probably has blank value in LAST_NAME field. pls check the detail record results of your query without the 'BY' and 'ACROSS'.

Yogesh,

The problem of the blank first cell is caused by the Define for the EMP_CNT. The first record it reads sets the value to 1 and therefor there is no data to put in Row = 0 & Col = 0. I ran a print of the data as well as print off the Emp_ID, Row_CNT, COL_cnt, before I posted the reply

Thank you everyone for your responses.

I was away for a little while. I just did a quick check with your solutions, and my #1 problem is getting close but not #2.

I have to do some catching up with my work, so I'll be back to explain more. Thanks.
