Please do a search for PTOA.
This function converts Packed fields to Alpha fields.

Latigresa,

If your field is P20 and you want to change to A10, does that mean that you want to have, in the alpha field, 2 decimal digits per byte? If so, use PCKOUT.

Danny,

Thanks but when I do a pckout it gives me jiberish. I tried a compute but it adds a bunch of zeros I don't need in there. I think after the compute I need to do another edit to remove the leading zeros.

Thanks!!!

M Max,

Thanks as well getting ready to do the search for your suggestion. I'll let you know what I find and if that gets me going.

Thanks!!!

PCKOUT writes a packed number from an unpacked number. That is not what you want to do. Max's suggestion of PTOA is the one you need to go with. However, as with all of the cTOA functions, usually the output alpha format tends to be larger than the number of digits in the original number. If you want to smash it into an A10, you will have to massage to PTOA output even further to get rid of non-significant characters as you have already alluded to.

Latigresa,

If you say "jiberish" that means that you want to see the numbers in the A10 field and not output 10 bytes packed.

So, yes, you should use PTOA. Beware, if your P20 field has more than 10 significant digits, then you will get ********** in your alpha field. See the 7.6 Using Functions Manual, page 10-15.
