[SHARING] Convert Tableau to WebFOCUS
Is there any standard / established documentation on converting Tableau 'code' to WebFOCUS? If so, where?

Good thought, thanks Waz. FP is always my first line of defense... I'll check Support tomorrow...

I've already done some from their Tableau mock-ups. WebFOCUS is winning Smiler... Even in IA.

Sounds great.

Am interested in how it goes, as we have Tableau here as well.

I'm interested too: for reasons of competition, obviously.

Can you post those items not supported by Tableau but supported by WebFocus?

That will be helpful for all of us to make our case strong in our company.

This sounds like a great topic for Summit. Things you can do in WebFOCUS that Tableau can't. Smiler

I just got the message from on high that all new development will be in Tableau. We are not far from Tableau's corporate offices so you can imagine how many of their sales reps are swarming around. They are even on our Board.

I probably won't go to Summit because I won't be able to implement all the cool new stuff I learn there.

South Lake Union in Seattle. Tableau HQ, Amazon HQ, Google … all within blocks of us. Microsoft HQ a few miles away.

It's a tough sell for the IBI folks - although I did have a two year gig at Microsoft creating a PO and PR reporting system in WebFOCUS in 1999.

I misspoke. Tableau merely gave us an enterprise license. Jeff Bezos gave us $5M. Oh and the CEO of Microsoft is on our Board. We are Seattle's favorite charity, but there are often strings attached.

So far, what we're doing is creating synonyms from the Tableau SQL. We're using their output, chart and reports as mock-ups to rebuild them in WebFOCUS. So far, so good. Which is to say that everything we've done is better (No surprise there, right?).

Thanks for the share Doug!

Best of luck with the remainder of your project.

hmmm..why better? We are on the old lowly wf8001 hoping to upgrade BUT...we also have tableau and to be honest it kicks WH 8001 a$$ in so far a graphing. FYI we stage data for each. The power for us in WF is in the portal and custom reporting done using FML...ideally there is room for both tools....

My experience is that if there is room for both tools, there is room for other tools, and you will end up with a disparate collection of products that all partially cover part of any requirements, increasing costs in supporting and maintaining the infrastructure.

Ugh, similar stuff hasbeen happening here as of late. PowerBI Desktop got a foot in and now we are jumping through hoops to work around its rather limited connectivity options.

PowerBI claims to support all kinds of databases, but in reality only a few support "Direct Query" - in all other cases it downloads the entire dataset to your desktop. And yet they have the nerve to call it "PowerBI"...

… Great stuff as long as you redesign your metadata layer.

It's a big project we are about to attack.
