I want to EXecute a focexec where a parameter is optional but I keep getting the missing value error.
Example:

FOCEXEC1:
EX GREETPRG

GREETPRG.fex:
-TYPE 'HELLO ' &1;

I get a missing value when I run FOCEXEC1.
It runs fine though if I say EX GREETING 'JOHN' in FOCEXEC1.

The key is, I need it to be optional. So I don't have to go to every JCL in our system and modify them to say
EX GREETING 1='' if no parameter value is needed.

There must be a technique aroung this.
Please help!

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Thanks,
Ronnel C

Try using a -DEFAULTS in the program to make sure that there is always a value even if one is not provided externally.

There is also the &VAR.EVAL option.

As, Ginny says, if there is only one fex you have to worry about, then a -DEFAULT or the evaluate option, If many fex, then you decide which is the greater work.

Use the advanced search in the upper right corner of this page, type in -DEFAULT. You'll get lots of documentation hits.

Happy reading!

If you are still looking for examples:
GREETPRG.fex:
-DEFAULTS parm_name=' '
-TYPE 'HELLO ' &parm_name;

-OR-
GREETPRG.fex:
-DEFAULT &parm_name=' '
-TYPE 'HELLO ' &parm_name;
