I am trying to create a hold file and then graph off of it's content. The hold file is a temporary one. The attached code is an example that i have made using the car file. Please take a look at it and let me know why i get an error that the HOLD1 file is not available.
Thanks!

-* File cartest_parametersinagraph.fex
TABLE FILE CAR
BY 'CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE'
BY 'CAR.BODY.SEATS'
BY 'CAR.SPECS.WEIGHT'
WHERE CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE NE 'SEDAN';
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD1 FORMAT FOCUS
SET HOLDLIST = PRINTONLY
-RUN
END

GRAPH FILE HOLD1
-* Created by Advanced Graph Assistant
SUM HOLD1.SEG01.WEIGHT
BY HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE
WHERE HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE EQ '&BODYTYPE.(FIND HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE IN HOLD1).Bodytype:.';
ON GRAPH PCHOLD FORMAT PNG
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHDEFAULT OFF
ON GRAPH SET VZERO OFF
ON GRAPH SET HTMLENCODE ON
ON GRAPH SET HAXIS 770
ON GRAPH SET VAXIS 405
ON GRAPH SET UNITS PIXELS
ON GRAPH SET LOOKGRAPH VBAR
ON GRAPH SET GRMERGE ADVANCED
ON GRAPH SET GRMULTIGRAPH 0
ON GRAPH SET GRLEGEND 0
ON GRAPH SET GRXAXIS 1
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHSTYLE *
setTemplateFile("/images/tdg/template/IBISouthWestern.txt");
setReportParsingErrors(false);
setSelectionEnableMove(false);
setDepthRadius(5);
setTransparentBorderColor(getChartBackground(),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(0),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(1),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(2),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(3),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(4),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(5),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(6),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(7),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(8),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(9),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(10),true);

ENDSTYLE
END

Because the syntax of the first TABLE FILE is wrong. You should see these errors:

(FOC002) A WORD IS NOT RECOGNIZED: SET
(FOC009) INCOMPLETE REQUEST STATEMENT

SET HOLDLIST = PRINTONLY
should either be put before the first TABLE FILE, or coded like this:
ON TABLE SET HOLDLIST  PRINTONLY

I took that line out and it still does not work. It gives me a FOC205 error. I had inserted that line at the request of a coworker to see if it would work. I still get the same error. Thanks for your help. Do you have any additional ideas?

Remove the -Run. It goes after the fex.

As Prarie stated, the -RUN is in the wrong spot.

The FOC205 error is most likely for the GRAPH FILE and this is because the previous TABLE FILE failed and did not create the HOLD FILE.

I stick -RUN commands after every END statement in my code - this ensures the error messages appear where they should - after each data retrieval command, instead of all together at the end.

I removed the -RUN and i still get the same error message. The code now reads:

-* File cartest_parametersinagraph.fex
TABLE FILE CAR
BY 'CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE'
BY 'CAR.BODY.SEATS'
BY 'CAR.SPECS.WEIGHT'
WHERE CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE NE 'SEDAN';
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD1 FORMAT FOCUS
END

GRAPH FILE HOLD1
-* Created by Advanced Graph Assistant
SUM HOLD1.SEG01.WEIGHT
BY HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE
WHERE HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE EQ '&BODYTYPE.(FIND HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE IN HOLD1).Bodytype:.';
ON GRAPH PCHOLD FORMAT PNG
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHDEFAULT OFF
ON GRAPH SET VZERO OFF
ON GRAPH SET HTMLENCODE ON
ON GRAPH SET HAXIS 770
ON GRAPH SET VAXIS 405
ON GRAPH SET UNITS PIXELS
ON GRAPH SET LOOKGRAPH VBAR
ON GRAPH SET GRMERGE ADVANCED
ON GRAPH SET GRMULTIGRAPH 0
ON GRAPH SET GRLEGEND 0
ON GRAPH SET GRXAXIS 1
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHSTYLE *
setTemplateFile("/images/tdg/template/IBISouthWestern.txt");
setReportParsingErrors(false);
setSelectionEnableMove(false);

I never use autoprompt for anything, so I tested with a value and the report ran without problems.

We have autoprompt turned off and I don't know how to turn it on for an individual report.

This fex works:
TABLE FILE CAR
BY 'CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE'
BY 'CAR.BODY.SEATS'
BY 'CAR.SPECS.WEIGHT'
WHERE CAR.BODY.BODYTYPE NE 'SEDAN';
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE HOLD AS HOLD1 FORMAT FOCUS
END

GRAPH FILE HOLD1
-* Created by Advanced Graph Assistant
SUM HOLD1.SEG01.WEIGHT
BY HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE
-*WHERE HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE EQ '&BODYTYPE.(FIND HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE IN HOLD1).Bodytype:.';
WHERE HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE EQ 'HARDTOP'
ON GRAPH PCHOLD FORMAT PNG
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHDEFAULT OFF
ON GRAPH SET VZERO OFF
ON GRAPH SET HTMLENCODE ON
ON GRAPH SET HAXIS 770
ON GRAPH SET VAXIS 405
ON GRAPH SET UNITS PIXELS
ON GRAPH SET LOOKGRAPH VBAR
ON GRAPH SET GRMERGE ADVANCED
ON GRAPH SET GRMULTIGRAPH 0
ON GRAPH SET GRLEGEND 0
ON GRAPH SET GRXAXIS 1
ON GRAPH SET GRAPHSTYLE *
setTemplateFile("/images/tdg/template/IBISouthWestern.txt");
setReportParsingErrors(false);
setSelectionEnableMove(false);
setDepthRadius(5);
setTransparentBorderColor(getChartBackground(),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(0),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(1),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(2),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(3),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(4),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(5),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(6),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(7),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(8),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(9),true);
setTransparentBorderColor(getSeries(10),true);
setPlace(true);
ENDSTYLE
END

I want the user to select what bodytype they would like to view, not hardcode it in for them. I want the dropdown to be populated by all the bodytypes that are in the hold file (everything but sedan). Do you know how i can accomplish this?

I assume that

WHERE HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE EQ '&BODYTYPE.(FIND HOLD1.SEG01.BODYTYPE IN HOLD1).Bodytype:.';

is supposed to accomplish this but I have never used this type of syntax.

We build HTML forms to launch reports based on selected parameters.

Francis,
Thanks for your help with this. I was able to populate my parameters in a html page instead of trying to do it in the graph. My only problem is that the html parameters are not populated by my hold file. It was not an option from the master file list. How can i populate the parameters from my temporary hold file?

You're using Layout Composer to build the HTML form? In the Parameters tab, select Control Values "Dynamic" and "Procedure" (instead of "Data source"). Select the previously created fex that will populate the dropdown box. This fex should create a HOLD file in XML format of the values you want in the dropdown box - to populate the text and the value of the dropdowm, two fields should be in this hold file.

Doug, if you are in the MRE you can right click the fex and select properties. One of the options has to do with prompting.
