We are in the middle of upgrading from WF8105 (AIX with Oracle DB) to WF8206 (LINUX with Oracle DB) and I want to bulk load my users from 8105 to the 8206 environment. I can get the data I need from the UOA tables but I need all of the different security groups listed in one comma separated row, the bulk loader function only takes one row per user, rejecting subsequent rows with the same ID. I initially thought I could do this using a combination of SUM and ACROSS but I'm not getting the results like the bulk load tool needs.

Would anyone be able to provide a suggestion on how to accomplish this? Someone else has to have run into this already....

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Mike

In the installation guide starting on Page 78 there are step by step instructions to accomplish the upgrade from 8.1.05 to 8.2.06 and it all begins during the actual installation of the product.

If you have questions the best way to get help is to contact your TAM (Technical Account Manager) or techsupport by opening a case.

Thanks for your reply Chuck, yes we did that and it worked very well for us in our initial 8206 "staging" environment. We also put up a vanilla version, new 8206 install on a new Linux machine. We need to do a phased implementation due to varied needs of our customers. We can CM our groups to the new vanilla 8206 "Dev" machine as needed and wanted to be able to move select groups of users to this machine via the import users in security center, hence the question. Thanks!

Gotcha... I have not used this feature but I found two things that may help you.

https://webfocusinfocenter.inf...topics3/02_users.htm

And a case that was open regarding this as well.

Chuck,

Thanks for taking the time and effort to reply once again! I had been using the information in the first link previously to successfully import users. That's the info I was using to get started on this effort. It is very helpful information.

I've gotten the tool to add a user and one group/role; working on getting all of the groups/roles into one string has been the trick.

The second link was a 404 not found for me (?).

Have a great day!
Mike

Research Notes
Explanation
WebFOCUS Security I am working with several users who are asking questions about the new 8.2 feature to upload users. The 8.2 new features document states: New Users Bulk Load You can now import a .csv file to create new WebFOCUS users in bulk. This can be quicker and more efficient than individually creating multiple users with the New User dialog box from the Security Center. 170518074_1.png This opens the Import Users dialog box, where you can browse to locate the.csv file containing multiple users. 82snf.pdf attached. An example of the csv file is provided in the retail_Samles CM package Note the following: 170518074_2.png The contents look like: 170518074_3.png The security and admin manual has the layout as follows (page 317) The import file must contain the following columns: user name, password, description, email address, user status, and groups, The questions I have are the following: 1) Are the fields all necessary (for example if you do not want to put in a password, do you leave it blank or with two commas) It appears the password is plain text. Would an encrypted password from the UOA_Users table work? This example of 7 users has two groups on one line 2) Are there any rules like one user per line, Or can one have one line for each group So could you enter a list of users in one group then later include users for another group. Will the repeated users be overwritten or will the 2nd group just be added. This information is lacking in the new features guide 3) Are users the only thing that are added. If there is a group membership to a group that does not yet exist, does the group get create, or is it just passed over
Reproduction
IRNing per Product Division (BMN) and ASM (DRH) comments below: ASM (DRH) talked to the Product Division (BMN) He thinks there needs to be a JIRA to note that the document information on the layout is missing. It is not found anywhere. He was not aware of that.

I am working with several users who are asking questions about the new 8.2 feature to upload users

the 8.2 new features document states:

This is also available in the PDF.

An example of the csv file is provided in the retail_Samles CM package

Note the following:

The contents look like:

I have uploaded a copy of the file to this case.

The security and admin manual has the layout as follows (page 317)

The import file must contain the following columns: user name, password, description, email address, user status, and groups,

The questions I have are the following:

Are the fields all necessary (for example if you do not want to put in a password, do you leave it blank or with two commas)

It appears the password is plain text. Would an encrypted password from the UOA_Users table work?

This example of 7 users has two groups on one line

Are there any rules like one user per line,

Or can one have one line for each group

So could you enter a list of users in one group

then later include users for another group. Will the repeated users be overwritten or will the 2nd group just be added.

This information is lacking in the new features guide

Are users the only thing that are added. If there is a group membership to a group that does not yet exist, does the group get create, or is it just passed over

Update:

Hi David,

Below are the Product Division responses:

1) Are the fields all necessary (for example if you do not want to put in a password, do you leave it blank or with two
commas)
It appears the password is plain text. Would an encrypted password from the UOA_Users table work?
This example of 7 users has two groups on one line

Response:
Not sure what they are asking. The password in this file is clear text, that is true.
When inserted in to the DB, it is hashed.
If you are using External Authentication, the password does not matter, and yes
you can put in a blank.

2) Are there any rules like one user per line,
Or can one have one line for each group
So could you enter a list of users in one group
then later include users for another group. Will the repeated users be overwritten or will the 2nd group just be added.
This information is lacking in the new features guide

Response:
Need to read the entire feature, page 317 of attached.

3) Are users the only thing that are added. If there is a group membership to a group that does not yet exist,
does the group get create, or is it just passed over

Response:
This one is for you to try to see what happens if the group does not exist.

Please let me know.

Thanks, Fred.

I talked to Ben Naphtali at Summit.
He thinks there needs to be a JIRA to note that the document information on the layout is missing.
It is not found anywhere.
He was not aware of that.
Can we generate a JIRA for a doc enhancement?
