Is there a way in WF8 to conditionally style the markers of a scatter plot based on values in the data? So if i want to turn all the markers red that have a value >= 1000 as an example.

Thanks for the help narumu, I tired that but it doesn't seem to work in any configuration. The one difference between my graph and yours is I have two by fields and 1 summation. I tried to recreate it using the car file but it is not cooperating atm.

I know you can use the standard WHEN command in the graphs but it doesn't seem to work when you have two by fields.

Tim,

I think the BY field is causing the issue. I have tried the below code by giving NOPRINT to first BY field.Can you check whether it solves your problem.

-* File scatterplot_conditionstyle.fex
-*IA_GRAPH_BEGIN
-*Do not delete or modify the comments below

This is strange, your code does work but for some reason the same logic applied to my problematic graph does not work. I don't get this, it should be fairly simple, the only difference in code is the GRMERGE setting.

You are trying to apply the styling on By field (GROWTH). Can you please try applying on summation field (CURR_SPRD).Like below.

quote:
TYPE=DATA, COLUMN=CURR_SPRD,COLOR=RGB(255 0 0),WHEN=GROWTH GE 20, $

Tried that, it changes the color of the marker for the first series only which also happens to be the first row in the table that is being fed into the graph.

Maybe it is a series issue? Even if i try below it only colors one series.

TYPE=DATA,COLOR=RGB(255 0 0),WHEN=CURR_SPRD GE 1000, $

I've had similar issues with a SPECTRAL graph that has multiple BY fields and is set to GRMULTIGRAPH 1. I have been trying to get data labels assigned to an intersection of group and series to conditionally color based on value. No dice thus far.

8.2.02M (production), 8.2.02M (test), Windows 10, all outputs.

Thanks for the response Tom, sadly that solution didn't work either. At this point, i'm going to open a case because it should literally be that simple.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the multiple by fields and GRMERGE but i haven't confirmed that yet, mostly cause I do not know what GRMERGE does.

Is there a way in WF8 to conditionally style the markers of a scatter plot based on values in the data?

In the following visualization, if the marker represents a value more than 4 mil, it displays as a large green star:

David,
That is an excellent idea. I did try it but sadly it did not work. The JS seems to be rendering correctly but it isn't doing any of the styling. I did notice we are on different version of WF, i'm on 8.1.05, I find it hard to believe that would be causing it but i've been surprised before -_-....

After some further research, it looks like the scatter plot chart type only has one series, in the example above the series would be country. I think what needs to happen is some type of conditional if then else logic needs to be applied only to series 0. Still working on a solution to this if anyone has any suggestions.

With a couple of minor changes to the model/code you provided, green larger stars appear for ENGLAND, ITALY, and GERMANY:

-RUN

 PRINT DEALER_COST NOPRINT
 COMPUTE COLOR/A5 = IF SUM.DEALER_COST GT 10000 THEN 'green' ELSE 'red'; NOPRINT

It has to be a difference in environments, when i run that code, all 5 markers are large stars.

Analyzing the code it generates, it appears to only be applying the first style to everything. My assumption is the jschart scatter plot only ever has one series so it is applying the style for 'series:00' and ignoring 'series:01' through 'series:04'. I'm not sure i understand why this chart type only has one series.

var chart = new tdgchart({backend:'js', allowBackendFallback:true});
chart.data = [];
chart.applyPFJDefaults();
chart.parsePFJString(script);
// The following JS code was generated by the Reporting Server:
chart.data[0] = [];
chart.data[0][0] = 37853.00;
chart.data[0][1] = 4631.00;
chart.data[0][2] = 41235.00;
chart.data[0][3] = 5512.00;
chart.data[0][4] = 54563.00;
chart.set({
// The following properties are from the *GRAPH_JS section of the stylesheet:
border: {color: 'navy'},
legend: {visible: false},
series: [
{series:00, marker: {shape:'fiveStar', color:'green', size:30}},
{series:01, marker: {shape:'triangle', color:'red', size:15}},
{series:02, marker: {shape:'fiveStar', color:'green', size:30}},
{series:03, marker: {shape:'triangle', color:'red', size:15}},
{series:04, marker: {shape:'fiveStar', color:'green', size:30}},
	]
});

So David was correct, if you loop through the series with what styling you want, the conditions work. The other thing i noticed was the GUI does this:
 ON GRAPH SET LOOKGRAPH SCATTERS
, 'SCATTERS' didn't look right so i changed it to 'SCATTER' and it seemed to work better.

Either way, conditional styling should work properly simply with the 'WHEN' command so i opened a case for it. Hopefully this solution helps some others. Thanks David!
