S.J. Kadish,
Here is a link to the WebFOCUS 8.2.01M technical documentation. You will find the Release notes and installation guides etc.

Application and Enterprise Editions (8.2.01M)

This is a good start until our members share their experiences.

8.2M is (so much) better... imho.

Anyone not there yet, should plan on doing so ASAP... imho

Doug, what specifically you like about it? Currently, we have 8.105m and I am trying to build the case for upgrade and any improvements would be welcome to hear from You.

For example, I would like to see 'main page' of the 8.2 WebFocus, is it dramatically different as I heard from conferences?

Thanks,

Some of the 8.2 features I really like are:

Auto Drill, Auto Link, Much better Geo features with extra demographic layers, Responsive Templates for App Studio Composer, a lot of D3 Chart Extensions, Collaborative Portals. Narrative Charts are cool too.

Thank you BabakNYC,
One more question, do you guys maybe used already "Collaborative Portal" under 8.2? If so, if a user reply/post the comment, is there some kind email/notification that there is a comment? and who would receive that notification? (Everyone who have access to that report?)

I haven't fully tried it so I don't know if an email or notification will be sent. Something you might want to find out from IB Tech support and post here so we know.

Nobody receives any email when you reply/post the comment. That works similar to the blog. Whoever access to the portal can able to see those post.

We're also looking at upgrading to 8.2. What we're interested in is: What stopped working in 8.2? Or, more to the point: What backward-incompatible changes are in 8.2?

We heavily rely on server-side fexes and we still use the projects tree (for deployment and filtering).

We do have an 8.2 demo system, but it doesn't have adapters configured (or licensed) to our various databases, so we can't readily test our existing reports against it (yet).
That demo is primarily an attempt to sell InfoAssist (and HyperStage) to our business analysts, which is mostly a battle between how fancy things look on competing systems (which we all know is rather irrelevant).

What about IBI's cloud offering? Has anyone looked at that at all? IBI came in and was talking to my bosses about possibly switching over to it... Visions of 2008 and the wonders of Version 8 instantly flashed in my mind ( I think the first release date I heard of was in 2009...). Does anyone know if the cloud offering is stable and worth looking into? Or is it going to be such a large change for IBI that we are looking at another 5 years before it becomes stable?
