The concept is nothing but using straight SQL in your code and putting wrappers around it to notify the WF engine to take it as-is to the DBMS. You will be better off by doing a Search (Link on Top right corner above) yourself on 'passthrough' and there are tons of previous posts on this.

The only thing that differs is in the keyword that specifies the DBMS type

SQL DB2 or SQL SQLMSS etc.

Best regards,
Sandeep Mamidenna

Kiran,

The basic syntax is as follows:

SQL DB2 (engine specific determined by your connection needs)
Select statement
; REQUIRED TO END THE SQL STATEMENT
TABLE ON TABLE HOLD AS ... Statement to hold the output
END
-RUN

In essence the SQL statement is wrapped by focus according to the example above.
This will pass the SQL directly back to the source DB server. Variables can be passed, which should be evaluated immediately (&VAR.EVAL or equivalent syntax). Virtually any legitimate SQL statement supported by the engine will work via this technique.

Recommend adding engine specific syntax to make the select statement an uncommitted read.

Update, Inserts and Deletes can also occur via this mechanism. Commit statements are required.

Good Luck,

John
