try creating dfefine that gives a condition to include every field onthe report and then in a subfoot do a left caret ct.fieldname in a subfooting.

Totals and subtotals do not go into hold files
The way to add a total line to a file is to append it.

FILEDEF CSVFILE DISK CSVFILE.FTM (APPEND
-RUN
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
DEALER_COST
RETAIL_COST
BY CAR
ON TABLE HOLD AS CSVFILE FORMAT COMMA
END
-RUN
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
COMPUTE TOTAL/A16='Total'; AS 'CAR'
DEALER_COST
RETAIL_COST
ON TABLE HOLD AS CSVFILE FORMAT COMMA
ON TABLE SET HOLDLIST PRINTONLY
ON TABLE SET ASNAMES ON
END
-RUN
