Hello! I am trying to figure out how to test the value in a table field. Here is the code I have below so far:

-SET &USER_NAME =myusername;

TABLE FILE EMPHIER
PRINT ACCESS_LEVEL USER_NAME
WHERE USER_NAME EQ '&USER_NAME';
ON TABLE HOLD AS USER_RECORD
END
-RUN

-*since there is only one record per USER_NAME in this table, the resulting table file request will always have one record unless the USER_NAME is invalid

What I want to do is check to see what the value of the field ACCESS_LEVEL (which is an alpha field) is and then do an IF statement to determine what to do depending on what the value of ACCESS_LEVEL is.

For instance, my thought would be something like this:

-IF ACCESS_LEVEL EQ 'LEVEL1' THEN GOTO LEVEL1ACCESS ELSE GOTO LEVEL2ACCESS;

This of course didn't work, which is why I am here :-)

Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance!

You can handle this using a -READFILE or adding a global variable at server profile to get username and access_level.

I hope it helps.

See ya

Would the syntax for the -READFILE be something like this:

-SET &USER_NAME =myusername;

TABLE FILE EMPHIER
PRINT ACCESS_LEVEL USER_NAME
WHERE USER_NAME EQ '&USER_NAME';
ON TABLE HOLD AS USER_RECORD
END
-RUN
-READFILE USER_RECORDS
-TYPE ACCESS_LEVEL=&ACCESS_LEVEL

Yes, thanks for spotting the error!

Here is what I have now:

-SET &USER_NAME =myusername;

TABLE FILE EMPHIER
PRINT ACCESS_LEVEL USER_NAME
WHERE USER_NAME EQ '&USER_NAME';
ON TABLE HOLD AS USER_RECORD
END
-RUN
-READFILE USER_RECORD
-TYPE ACCESS_LEVEL=&ACCESS_LEVEL
-IF &ACCESS_LEVEL EQ 'LEVEL1' THEN GOTO LEVEL1ACCESS ELSE GOTO LEVEL2ACCESS;

However, when I run this code, it wants to know a value for ACCESS_LEVEL as if it doesn't know what it is?

Add in before the TABLE FILE

-SET &ACCESS_LEVEL =;

OR

-DEFAULTH &ACCESS_LEVEL = {some dummy value} ;

The DEFAULTH will cause a warning of the amper variable being overwritten.

Also, you don't need USER_NAME in the TABLE FILE as you already have it

FYI

-SET &variable =;

Clears/removes/deletes the variable.
