Like the subject said, I'm running WF Dev. Studio 7.1.3 and it keeps closing on itself. Mostly, I noticed, when I tried to save the procedure with Ctrl+S or when I change window. Is this normal, normal as in it happen to a lot of people, or just me? thanks~ 7.1.3 on XP into HTML, Excel, PDF | ||

Yuuta, Relax, it's not just you. I moved to 7.1.6 of DS and I haven't had a premature shutdown of DS since - but that's just now tempted fate  T

I don't know about 713 but that problem plagued me on 764, am testing 765 at the moment so will let know if i have the same issues. Here's something weird that more often than not will kill my DevStudio session. When I am multi-selecting (Ctrl+click) on several fexes or other objects in the DS explorer window (for example to delete or copy), if I don't pause after selecting each object, DS will die. In other words, Ctrl +click, Click, Click will kill it while Ctrl+Click, Pause, Click, Pause, Click is OK. Anyone else seen this? I'm on 716 and have experienced significantly fewer problems with sessions ending prematurely, as Tony mentions, but this one almost always gets me!! Darin, Rings a bell, I seem to recall doing something very much like that when I last had the dreaded. I must admit that I do tend to do only very simple multi select ops more recently and I suppose that is why (touch wood) I haven't had any problems. Call me over cautious but I can be more productive staying on 7.1.6 DS than moving forward. However, there will come a day when that version is no longer supported and I shall have to find a new version to cherish  T

Additional memory usually helps. It used to happen frequently on my previous desktop with only 1 Meg of Ram. Other factors may also have been present but I know that for certain, 809 DevStudio, MRE, Report Caster , Report Library Output: Excel PDF, HTML | |||

I don't know if this is it, but I had a problem where Dev Studio was just closing when I ran certain fexes. Turned out that if you had a line in the fex with only one hyphen on it: - It was an error -- a fatal error -- and Dev Studio would crash. Take the single hyphen line out, and it wouldn't crash. | |||

While additional memory helps, most of the problems that cause DS to die are not caused by lack of memory. The memory's also a problem although a rather different kind. I got a few windows opened(Notepad, DS, Excel, IE, and Lotus Notes) and was rather bored so I click click click change windows rather quickly. After a few second when I got back to DS, DS just closed itself. I'm running on 512mb  Also, like 8 out of 10 DS would closed on FEXes with comments -* never seem to have any teouble with FEXes comment free there, the DS just died when I'm typing this post >_< 7.1.3 on XP into HTML, Excel, PDF | |||

to be honest i wouldn't try running dev if i only had 1 meg of ram on my machine, did you mean Gig? either way, what ive used of notepad ++ has been very stable- ok its just a glorified Text eidtor but its stable, has faster navigation (7/6/5 is still painfully slow) and doesn't just shut down- i will use 7.6.5 until one of these crashes happen and then ill probably move over to notepad ++ as i can't afford to be losing code Developer Studio 7.64 Win XP Output: mostly HTML, also Excel and PDF "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." - Heinlein's Razor | |||

Uggg - I remember thinking that 512k of RAM and the 5MB hard drive that I had was HUGE - I would NEVER use that much. Now I'm looking at getting 4GB of RAM and 1TB for storage. Windows: WF 7.6.2: SQL Server 2008 R2 | |||

no, i was taking the Mickey; 2 x 500KB = 1 MB although im sure at some point 1MB RAM was de riguer... but i probably wasn't alive then! I guessed as much which is why I included the "matched pairs" part in the quote. Way back when 1 Mb was luxury (you were probably no more tha a glint in your Father's eye) the RAM didn't come in matched pairs (originally) hence the comment, but then let's not go back too far? The first commercial program I wrote took up 512 bytes (yes bytes not kilobytes) and was keyed in hex. A little later than punched card of course , not that I can remember that!  but pre bloatware T
