Hello All,

I am currently defining different synonyms to be used as data sources and have all of my different tables joined in the synonym and they appear to be working correctly when testing in infoassist.

I am attempting to create different user filters that are commonly asked for in our ad hoc requests. An example of a common request is to include our internal reps in a report. So we would do the following in SQL.

select RepNumber
from Rep r
left join HouseReps h ON r.RepNumber = h.RepNumber
where h.RepNumber is null

this little snippet would exclude all the repnumbers in the HouseReps table.

In my synonym I have a one to one left join set up between the Rep table and house reps table but i can't get the filter to work. Has anyone encountered this problem and how did you work around it?

Just a quick update. If i set SET ALL=PASS in the preprocessing then it works how intended. Is there anything I need to be aware of when setting this?

I would use set shortpath=sql instead of set pass = all. One thing to keep in mind is that not all commands will translate to sql. This can cause unforeseen consequences. For instance lst. And fst. Are not a part of the sql adapter, so the Sql won't parse as you expect and instead focus will handle that part on the reporting server. I would suggest trying a few queries and running sql traces to understand how the adapter trabslates things in different scenarios

Thanks for the tip eric.

That setting worked and the SQL trace joins exactly how I would if I wrote it myself.

That brings me to a side question. At the end of my select there is MAX(T1.RepNumber) that is there even though I have no column asking for a max.

Also everything is in group by even though I'm not grouping. I'm assuming this done for the nature of infoassist's analytics but the MAX column through me through a loop.

Hi SAI_Ryan,

Here are a few links that might help with your JOIN and related FOCUS to SQL translation questions.

Inefficient focus manage joins & large data sets

The TRACE statements as in the link above should be used for testing the SQL translated syntax and commented out or removed once reviewed.

MAX. - is usually used when an Alphanumeric is referenced with the verb SUM
