We are struggling to get the graphs come out in PDF format.

We are being told :
In order to put graphics in PDF, we MUST use the option involving setting our $DISPLAY variable to point to a machine which has an X-server or be running a virtual X-server with UNIX software that can render graphics, known as Xvfb.(virtual frame buffer)

Is this right ? Have anybody faced this problem ?

Thanks,

Why not just save them as a .gif and position them via style sheet etc.? That way the graph is formed as part of the PDF document and will be displayed on opening with acrobat reader.

WebFOCUS Server 8.2.01M, thru 8.2.07 on Windows Svr 2008 R2

When I try to do that I get the below error:

(FOC3251) IMAGE FILE UNREADABLE OR INVALID: GRF (RC=101)
(FOC3202) BAD VALUE IN STYLESHEET FILE AT LINE: 1 IMAGE=GRF.GIF

In fact I get that error any time I try to include any GIF or SVG file format in a PDF.

Hi bchinnap,

Has this issue been resolved?

Per this online document, 'No HTML Output!', 'FOC3251' and 'FOC3202' when using .SVG files created in Adobe Illustrator, WebFOCUS does not support .SVG files created outside of the product. When .SVG graphics were introduced, the intention was to provide enhanced output quality for WebFOCUS graphs, not generalized .SVG support.

To fix the error messages, the following topics from Information Builders' online documents may be of interest:

DYNAM ALLOC FILE GIF results in FOC398, FOC3251 and FOC3202

(FOC3251) & (FOC3202) when creating a GIF file from a Graph

Summary: 5.3:SVG FORMAT w/AMPERSANDs(&) in DATA->FOC3251,FOC3202

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Big Grin

bchinnap,

The information that IBI has given you is partly correct, However it's correctness is based on the version of WebFocus that you are running.

Normally on all platforms you require a graphics server to be able to generate graphs, This can either be a 'real' or virtual server.

However in the later releases, 5.3 upwards, headless graphics are supported. Enabling them is an admin function, however as always there have been different issues reported of different platforms.

Just creating a .gif file and including it will not work as the generation of the gif requires either the graphics engine or using the headless option.

If you want to give headless a try look at hottrack case 12872069.
The fact that your'e trying .svg tells me that your'e at least 53x so it should work.

Also HOLD the graph file to an absolute location and specify that, or try specifying it as IMAGE=.\GRF.GIF so that the PDF generator has no doubt about it's location.

Ok, I've been playing a little bit with this theme, and currently I've been able of showing a graph into a pdf, of course, saving or as an image.

Here's the code:

-* Allocation of the GIF
FILEDEF CARGIF DISK C:\CARGIF.GIF

-* Simply Graph Report
GRAPH FILE CAR
SUM SALES SALES
BY COUNTRY
ON GRAPH HOLD AS CARGIF FORMAT GIF
END
-RUN

-* Easy Report
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES NOPRINT BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE SET STYLE *

-* Image Previously Saved
TYPE=REPORT, IMAGE=C:\CARGIF.gif,
POSITION=(2 0), SIZE=(5 3), $
ENDSTYLE

-* PDF Format!
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
END

Hope it helps!!

See ya..

quote:
FILEDEF CARGIF DISK C:\CARGIF.GIF

This is how you do to save Smiler

If you want, you can also do this, ie:

FILEDEF CARGIF DISK /yourserver/root/apps/htdocs/img
