How does one prevent WF from splitting a SUBTOTAL line into two, as shown in the attached image?

This happens in PDF but not HTML.

Thanks,

Pietro.

Subtotal splitting can be prevented by increasing the width of the sort field (using SQUEEZE in stylesheet).

Example: Subtotal splitting.
-* Example: Subtotal splitting.<br />-* Tested 5.1.4 & 5.2.1<br />TABLE FILE CAR<br />  PRINT<br />    SALES<br />  BY COUNTRY SUMMARIZE<br />  ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF<br />END<br />-RUN

SQUEEZE=2

For me, the subtotal line is getting splitted into 2 lines even when i am using SQUEEZE = . FYI I am using multiverb request in my report.
Please suggest a solution.

It is most likely the multi-verb request. The problem is that FOCUS wants to reserve enough room so that the word TOTAL and the value of the TOTAL field do not infringe on the first verb object. With a multi-verb request, that often means that the first verb object (even though it is not being subtotalled, is next to the sort column. Also, if you are NOPRINTing the BY field on the first verb, this means that it cannot fit TOTAL value BEFORE the first verb object in the first verb. You can try creating a DEFINE FILE XXX
BYFLD/A1 = ' ';
other define
END
TABLE FILE xxx
SUM (first verb)
BY BYFLD AS ' '
BY realby NOPRINT
other verb
BY BYFLD as ' '
BY realby NOPRINT SUBTOTAL AS ''

But then you won't get the word TOTAL.

Another option, if the first verb object is ALPHA, is to make it a BY field.

WEFOCUS - All releases starting at 4.3.6
MF FOCUS -- All releases starting at 3.8.68
OS/Platfor _ Predominately Z/OS, but all others as swell
Expected Output Format -- *

Hi Nordeen,
Using your approach, I was able to supress the splitting of total rows. However, another column was introduced which was not needed. Hence the 'Total XXX' is comin in the first column and the actual values of realby are coming in the next column.
Is it possible to have the Total values in the same column as that of the Realby values?
Help needed...
Regards
Syed

I think the machinations we have to go through to solve this simple problem are ridiculous.

"The problem is that FOCUS wants to reserve enough room so that the word TOTAL and the value of the TOTAL field do not infringe on the first verb object" - this appears to me as a hold-over from the days of 132 character fixed-width mainframe reports, we're now in the 21st century, so we shouldn't have this problem any more.

I always forget what the definitive solution for this problem is.

Syed, take a look at this forum thread - it might help you resolve the problem:

Francis, I can't agree with you enough. I asked Gerry at Summit 2005 for a simple SET to override this absurd default behaviour and his answer was that "there are enough SET commands already"....

I would surely sell several other SET commands if I could buy this one!
