I am receiving the following error message in my Focexec log.

'(FOC765) WARNING. LOGICAL RECORD
LENGTH EXCEEDED. THE LINE WAS TRUNCATED'

I am using the Dynam Alloc method. Is there a maximum character length using this method? I heard it was 512 chars...?

Can the maximum record length be increased?

Many thanks,
Jamie

Can you please post the DYNAM ALLOC command that's in your program?

The error message text by issuing a ? 765 is:
> > ? 765
(FOC765) WARNING. LOGICAL RECORD LENGTH EXCEEDED. THE LINE WAS TRUNCATED
The maximum line length allowed for the HOLD file was exceeded.
Therefore the line was truncated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a "set maxlrecl = n" command that I have used to read flat files that are wider than 4096 bytes (wayback in my mainframe focus 4.0 days I think). I believe the default for this setting in 7.11 is around 12k bytes. Again this pertained to reading a file. I do not know for sure if this also applies to writing a file but your process may also then table this hold file so I think that it would also apply. Why don't you set this to a width larger than then the file you are trying to create and see if this helps. If not then maybe others can help.

Good luck

Jamie,
When you use DYNAM ALLOC you are either defining the LRECL of your HOLD file or doing so by default. There shouldn't be any maximum.
If you don't use DYNAM ALLOC, WEBFOCUS does it for you and uses the aggregate length of the fields in your HOLD file.

Hi Jamie,

Has this issue been resolved? Many thanks to everyone's input on this one.

I ran a bit search on Information Builders' online documents and came across the following topic which may be of interest:

How to determine space utilization of DYNAM ALLOC HOLD FILES

Hope this helps. Smiler

Cheers,

Kerry

I know ReportCaster has limitations for focexec commands, something probably 256 chars. You may try to split your command into two lines to see if it works ok.
