[SOLVED] Modify Syntax

I am looking for the most recent applicable WebFOCUS documentation for syntax for MODIFY. Note 1. I have old documentation from mainframe FOCUS, but I suspect the syntax has changed (see following). Note 2. I have searched the documentation site and the forum with no luck. Note 3. I do not have MAINTAIN.

My specific question relates to simple modify actions (insert, update, delete) to an Oracle table. Inadvertantly I submitted a MODIFY request with no MATCH or NEXT statements. In the old days this would have be an error (I think). It appears WebFOCUS simply adds the records to the table with no regard to record uniqueness (S1 segment). Obviously I missed the email and/or there may be more going on than I see.

There has been no real changes to MODIFY for quite a while now.

For logic documentation try here.

MODIFY will add default logic if none exists. Therefore

MODIFY FILE fn
FIXFORM FROM HOLD
DATA ON HOLD
END

is valid, and produces:

MODIFY FILE fn
FIXFORM FROM HOLD
MATCH *
ON NOMATCH INCLUDE
DATA ON HOLD
END

hence your issue.

WebFOCUS Modify Reference Manual

You will probably need an account on the IBI website.

I also have a book titled "Interface to Oracle Users Manual". It however is for FOCUS for HP-UX 6.5, but the information in it is very useful for using MODIFY with Oracle. I have not found a .pdf for it on the IBI Website. If you can find it, study chapter 9, lots of good stuff.

I sent you mainframe links because there have not been any changes in MODIFY in a good long while. I found the old MF manuals had the best examples of using MODIFY in an application.
