Check your task manager (Right-click on taskbar and choose "Task Manager") and see if there is a process called focshell. If this is running, stop the process and try running DevStudio again.

Sometimes it hiccups and won't let you start it again.

Thanks George, focshell wasn't there, it must be something else wrong.

I have this same issue on my PC. I also had it with the Beta version, and actually opened a Tech Support case for it. Unfortunately, we were never able to find a solution. Tech support was looking into it, but I was able to install the software on a different PC, so I asked them to close the case. At one point, we acutally did a remote session where Tech Support watched me do the installation, but this did not provide any solutions. I was pretty convinced that it was some kind of driver or file problem that was specific to my PC.

When I installed the software, I got an error at the very end of the installation that says that the file edaoledb.dll could not self register. The installation then appears to finish normally. The first time I lauch Developer Studio, I get a dialog box that asks me to configure the development environments (I don't think this is supposed to appear if the software is installed properly, I did not get it on my other PC where the software was successfully installed). This dialog box does not respond to anything that you click on. If you hit OK or Cancel, it will close and Developer Studio will crash. From this point on, when you launch Developer Studio, the blue box splash screen that you mentioned appears for a couple of seconds and then goes away. The focshell.exe program is not running if you bring up the Task Manager. The reporting server that is installed with Developer Studio appears to work OK if you launch it by itself. It is just the actuall desktop application that cannot be launched.

I'm interested to know if you are experiencing the same thing. Maybe we have some type of software on our PC's that conflicts with Developer Studio. I should also mention that I had previous versions of Developer Studio and the full Reporting Server and Client on this PC. Maybe something did not uninstall properly from the previous versions.

I had a problem with DevStudio when trying to use PDF Layout in 7.1. I couldn't load a report. When I tried to create a report within PDF Layout it would stop DevStudio.
I was running MS Windows XP with no service packs. I installed SP2 and everything worked.
