Even if your version of WebFOCUS did allow protection it's not complete.

It does not support a password and can be turned off by the user simply by clicking the option in excel.

I was sure this had been posted before but cannot find the link

Sub Workbook_Open()

 ActiveSheet.Protect Password:="xxxxxxxx", DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True

End Sub

Make sure that you protect the macro in the VBA editor otherwise they will get the password simply by reading it.

If I remember the post I cannot find, Tony A suggested using the Random number generator to assign the password.

Only disadvantage is you will not know it either.

I can't find it either Frowner

Saggy,

What is the underlying requirement?

If it is so that they can manipulate the data for "what-if" scenarios, but not save any changes then you can code in VBA for that.

Hi tony,
The Requirement of the report is actually a report caster job distributing an excel output to some users thru email.And whn the users try to open the password the excel shld prompt for a password.and even if they save this attachement to their hard drive if any one unknowingly opens it , it shlould prompt for a password.so this is how the security to that excel has to be provided.

We have a similar requirement. Unfortunately, any time I use VBA macros, the customer is prompted with a "would you like to allow macros" message any time they open the document. So...... all he/she has to do is click "No" and then I no longer have password protected Excel documents.

Hi Friends,

Do we have this as a new feature in current webfocus version? I have got similar requirements, exploring ways to achieve this.
