What is it, in the below code, which causes the BACKCOLOR to prevent the POSITION from working? That is, the POSITION works fine IF the BACKCOLOR is not used. However, uncomment the BACKCOLOR line and see the ugly results. The BACKCOLOR is light gray, as expected. But, the POSITION is of null effect for SUBFOOT line 2.

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM DCOST RCOST
COMPUTE PROFIT/D12.2C = RCOST - DCOST ;
MODEL BODYTYPE WIDTH HEIGHT WEIGHT
BY COUNTRY NOPRINT
BY CAR
ON COUNTRY SUBFOOT
"<0>""<0><0>" "
HEADING
"CAR FILE HEADING and SUBFOOT TEST, <114>PAGE "
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=REPORT, SIZE=10, ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE,$
TYPE=SUBFOOT, ITEM=1, POSITION=DCOST, COLOR=GREEN,$
TYPE=SUBFOOT, ITEM=2, POSITION=RCOST, COLOR=PURPLE,$
TYPE=SUBFOOT, ITEM=3, POSITION=PROFIT, COLOR=BLUE,$
-*TYPE=SUBFOOT, LINE=2, BACKCOLOR=RGB(238 238 238),$
ENDSTYLE
END

I thank you in advance for thawing out the brain freeze.

BTW: This is in WF 714...

Thanks Tom,

I am not looking to backcolor a "cell". I need the entire line backcolored as in simulating the alternate colors. The code i provided is just a sample. What I really need is to apply alternating clors to some of the lines in a subfooting.

This behaves the same way in 7.6.5.

I have found that the POSITION style-sheet clause can cause problems with other clauses.

Add the following to make it work:

TYPE=SUBFOOT, LINE=2, BACKCOLOR=RGB(238 238 238), $
TYPE=SUBFOOT, LINE=2, ITEM=1, POSITION=DCOST, COLOR=GREEN, $
TYPE=SUBFOOT, LINE=2, ITEM=3, POSITION=PROFIT, COLOR=BLUE, $

So, specifying the LINE number with the ITEM number does the trick. STYLE each LINE and ITEM within that LINE explicitly.

Thanks... It's looking better... Make that PERFECT...

I do this when the styling does not behave as expected, it's usually a workaround to a bug.
