Hi everyone,

I think there is code to put at the top and/or bottom of a .fex to check how much "recources" the .fex uses. Basically I want to code my program one way, get a number, rewrite the program to get the same information (a different way), and get another number for comparison. I realize other factors are involved but this should work for what I need. Does anyone have suggestions for a search here or the actual code to help? Thanks for any help.

If you put a ? STAT after the END and -RUN it gives records, lines, i/o, reads, sort used, and a bunch of other stuff. Is this what you're looking for?

jcs,

You can also use &FOCCPU. Whenever you invoke this variable it will give you the time in milliseconds. For MVS it is the CPU time. For WIN, I am not so sure. Example:

-* File jcs.fex
-SET &ECHO=OFF;
-SET &START=&FOCCPU;
SET MSG=OFF
-REPEAT #A FOR &I FROM 1 TO 100;
TABLE FILE CAR
COUNT COUNTRY CAR BODY
ON TABLE HOLD
END
-RUN
-#A
-RUN
-SET &END= &FOCCPU;
-SET &TIME=&END - &START;
-TYPE &START &END &TIME

Hi jcs1226,

Unfortunately, there isn’t a code that can be used in the fex to show the resources used. The “? STAT” command will gives some statistics, such as number of records, reads, etc, but it does not show resource consumption. To get this kind of information, they will need to use the Resource Management tools (Resource Analyzer and Resource Governor). For more information on Resource Management, the following document may be of interest:

Configuring and Administering Resource Management From the Web Console

Hope this helps. Big Grin

Cheers,

Kerry
